“I am not free while any woman is unfree … Nor is any one of you.”
Angry and tired. This week, my body is silt and water in a storm.
Hate made visible; the old made new. White supremacy and racism, misogyny and sexualization, capitalism and imperialism perpetuate violence across the ages. Yet we can’t be desensitized. We can’t look away. We can’t avoid anger. We can’t bypass pain.
“I am not free while any woman is unfree, even when her shackles are very different from my own. And I am not free as long as one person of Color remains chained. Nor is any one of you.”
— Audre Lorde (The Uses of Anger: Women Responding to Racism)
Action is no escape — as so truly expressed by R.O. Kwon:
“Minutes after I first read about the attacks, I started thinking about what I should do, how I could be useful. Maybe I need to take another minute, maybe several minutes, to sit with this breaking heart.”
— R.O. Kwon (A Letter to My Fellow Asian Women Whose Hearts Are Still Breaking)
I feel this, while still grasping for words and ways of coping and being. For me, there is a relationship between language and feeling; action and healing.
The bookmarks below have been compiled between unplugging and connecting; receiving and forwarding, sharing and listening. It is not a comprehensive list (nor an endorsement of asking BIPOC for labor in learning). It is a collection that I’m continuing to update incrementally. It is a starter of resources for learning, actioning, and healing.
